Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) will soon conduct a study to create parking lots for cars along the bustling Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang, to cater to the growing number of vehicles in the area. Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng said many motorists were forced to double park, especially outside the Apollo market, as there was not a single car parking lot available in the area. “Many of these motorists have been slapped with summonses by the police for obstructing traffic flow. “We do not blame the police for carrying out their duties but we appeal to them to be a little considerate towards the residents as there are no proper parking facilities for now,” he said after visiting the market recently. Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng wants the Ministry of Transport to urgently consider the state's proposal to build a low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT). He reiterated that building a LCCT in Penang was important to stimulate the economy, especially in the tourism sector. "We have an ideal location for the purpose, just next to the Bayan Lepas International Airport. I have met and discussed the matter with Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Kiat in Parliament," he told reporters today. The RM7mil road leading to and from Tesco Extra hypermarket in Seberang Jaya, which hit a snag while undergoing construction work, was opened by Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng. Tesco Malaysia chief operating officer David Hobbs said the opening of the road yesterday marked a significant achievement for the company as it reflected its investment commitments and good neighbourliness within the area they are operating in. “By giving back to the community such as building the road, we hope to create a conducive environment for the people to live and in the process, create a better and healthier community. “We realise from the onset that for the business to really add value to the community, we need to construct not just the best store, but an access and exit road to facilitate traffic, not just for Tescos customers but residents,” he said. Good news ! Motorist from Prai area can now directly turn into Taman Bagan following the installation of traffic lights at the Jalan Chain Ferry – Taman Bagan junction. The traffic lights and junction which started operations last Saturday night also enable motorist heading to Butterworth from Taman Bagan to turn right into Jalan Chain Ferry. Sungai Puyu state assemblyman and Penang State Executive Councillor Phee Boon Poh who had been requesting the traffic lights and junction since 2004 said it would ease the traffic congestions in the area as well as traffic loads along Jalan Chain Ferry, Jalan Siram, Jalan Sungai Nyior and Jalan Permatang Pauh. Boon Poh who is also DAP Bagan Jermal Branch Chairman also stated that the traffic lights would also enable ambulances and motorists to gain faster route to Bagan Specialist Centre from Jalan Chain Ferry.
