Reveal names, Guan Eng demands UMNO

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has challenged UMNO to reveal the names of the Malay individuals allegedly driven out by the state government from their villages in the Jelutong constituency.

Lim explained that the incidents in Kampung Pokok Asam in Jelutong and Kampung Binjai in Bayan Lepas were due to court orders as the lands had been purchased or owned by private developers.

“If there is, please give me a name, unless there’s a court order that states the developers have taken over the land they are staying.

Speaking at a ceramah in Dataran Kompleks An-Nadhoh, Penanti last night with PAS Penang state commissioner Saleh Man and central committee member Mohammad Sabu, Lim said the state government had already intervened to find a solution by urging the developers in Pokok Asam to delay the project by 3 months to negotiate with villagers.

Lim also chided UMNO over its "heroic" attempt in Kampung Binjai to portray itself champion of the Malays.

He said Balik Pulau UMNO incited the people by spreading rumours that the state government would take over their lands in due time and drive out Malays out of the state.

"UMNO raises racial issues is for their narrow political interests, as well as to pit PAS, PKR and DAP against each other. When (PR) splits, BN and UMNO will cheer, however so far all their plans have backfired," he stressed

He said DAP had been labelled 'anti-Malay' despite the fact that Kampung Pokok Asam and Kampung Binjai residents were forced to evict because their lands had been sold by the previous Barisan Nasional administration for development.

He said such tactics were to scare away Malays in other states, and urged Penangites not to be duped - Agencies.
