Guan Eng challenges UMNO over 'khutbah lie'

Penang Chief Minister and DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng has challenged Penang UMNO's latest attack against him, in which it was alleged that several mosques had replaced the Agong's name with Lim's during the invocation at the end of the Friday khutbah (sermon). Lim however told UMNO to lodge a police report and furnish evidences. “If UMNO Pulau Pinang has evidence, please go ahead make a police report against the mosques," said an incensed Lim, adding that the state's Exco in charge of religious matters Malek Kassim had confirmed that the texts of the Friday sermons did not mention Lim. State UMNO chairman cum defence minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had claimed that the use of Lim's name was detected a week ago at Friday sermons at mosques in Tasek Gelugor, Permatang Pauh and Jelutong. “No police report had been made so far but there was sufficient evidence pertaining to the matter,” Zahid claimed. Lim said it was "impossible" that the Imam would do...

Don't link Islam to Malay rights

By: Salina Abdul Jalil As a Muslim, I am tired of the now-regular statements coming from people like UMNO Youth and Perkasa decrying those they accused of questioning "Malay rights and status of Islam". Pray, since when has preferential treatment of a race ever been linked to Islam? These groups should do Muslims, including those Muslims who are not Malays and who believe in Islamic juctice, a big favour by not mentioning 'Malay rights' and 'Islam' in one breath. For this reason, I applaud the stance by PAS on helping all the poor regardless of their race because this is what Islam stands for. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang could not make it clearer when he recently said the Bumi discount for property purchase should be extended to all poor. The Prophet Muhammad was not sent to us by Allah for Muslims only, but as Allah says in the Qur'an, he is a "rahmatun lil alamin", mercy to the world. He is sent for the whole mankind, and he lays down laws i...

CIJ Desak KDN Luluskan Permit Penerbitan Suara Keadilan, The Rocket Segera

Image

Practice of issuance of support letters for business purpose by all Pakatan Rakyat elected and non-elected officials should be stopped

The DAP Disciplinary Committee has deliberated on the practice of issuing business support letters in Selangor, especially in light of the recent allegation of improper conduct relating to the issuance of such support letters by a Klang Municipal Councillor. The DAP does not condone the practice of issuing support letters for business or commercial purpose as it could be easily abused and misconstrued. All party elected and non-elected officials are hereby directed to henceforth refrain from issuing such business support letters. As a matter of best practice, this directive should apply across the board to all Pakatan Rakyat (PR) elected and non-elected officials as well. This is in line with PR' s position of upholding the principle of good governance in state administration. At the same time, all PR officials including state agencies should also disregard all business support letters that are issued to them in order to ensure that all commercial dealings are above board and to av...

Reveal names, Guan Eng demands UMNO

Image
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has challenged UMNO to reveal the names of the Malay individuals allegedly driven out by the state government from their villages in the Jelutong constituency. Lim explained that the incidents in Kampung Pokok Asam in Jelutong and Kampung Binjai in Bayan Lepas were due to court orders as the lands had been purchased or owned by private developers. “If there is, please give me a name, unless there’s a court order that states the developers have taken over the land they are staying. Speaking at a ceramah in Dataran Kompleks An-Nadhoh, Penanti last night with PAS Penang state commissioner Saleh Man and central committee member Mohammad Sabu, Lim said the state government had already intervened to find a solution by urging the developers in Pokok Asam to delay the project by 3 months to negotiate with villagers. Lim also chided UMNO over its "heroic" attempt in Kampung Binjai to portray itself champion of the Malays. He said Balik Pulau UMNO inc...
