The army should provide more for our people asides security or enforcement

Image
We are now seeing the army doing their part to only assist the police force to maintain order and to enforce the movement control order nationwide in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus. What we had observed till today is the movement control order had since been successful despite some hiccups in certain areas which ought to be strictly enforced. However, asides being only involved in security related enforcement and patrolling activities, the army ought to do more in order to ease the burden of the relevant government agencies in getting their activities or efforts mobilised effectively. First, how about involving the Army’s Medical Corps? The medical corps of the not only the army but the navy and the air force as well ought to be mobilised to assist their civilian counterparts who are now experiencing shortage of medical staffs. Asides, it has been reported that many hospital and medical staffs are also infected with the virus while providing their service in hospitals, ...

Why deploy the army when the police force is good enough?

Image
We are referring to the recent announcement made by the defence minister today saying that the military will be deployed this Sunday in order to curb people's movement on the streets and eateries around Malaysia. First of all, why do the defence ministry need to deploy the military? Is there an unrest happening on the streets? The police force already have sufficient manpower to deal with the enforcement of the movement control order. Furthermore, General Operation Force (Pasukan Gerak Am-PGA), the enforcement officers of the various municipal councils nationwide and the voluntary security force (RELA) can also be deployed to assist the police force in enforcing the movement control. The military deployment is completely unnecessary since there is no civil disobedience taking place. It is only the people are still unclear of the situation, given the fact of the government's continuous flip flop on relating information and details to the public. Furthermore there are ...

Price increase of face mask is unreasonable and unacceptable

Image
We are disappointed with the way the domestic trade & consumer affairs minister in the Perikatan Nasional government in dealing with the matter on the supply of face mask to the public. Instead of assisting our people to lessen their burden, the minister has allowed the manufacturers to increase the price from a mere 80 cents to RM2.00 now which came into effect immediately after the minister’s authorisation. We are all watching in grave disappointment the way the minister handles such which allows the manufacturer to take advantage on the recent spike on the face mask usage. Instead of allowing the price to be increased, why didn’t the ministry consider other options that will give the manufacturer an advantage without having have to burden our people? The people is having enough with the current movement control order which was imposed by the government following the widespread of the disease of which the government had lost control on. Why didn’t the ministry propose a tax in...

Umno, jangan berlagak seperti Tuhan!

Seterusnya

What happened to the EPF's RM6.5 billion loaned to Felda?

Think tank: BN receives American funding, too

A think tank said the BN should not be “paranoid” about NGOs receiving foreign funding, as the ruling coalition also does likewise and receives American support. “Barisan Nasional MPs should not be so paranoid about the incoming of foreign funds to support NGOs in Malaysia,” said Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (Ideas) chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan in an email to Malaysiakini. “After all, Barisan Nasional parties also receive American support, with the latest one being just last weekend at a luxurious hotel in Kuala Lumpur. “This is not new because, in fact, Barisan Nasional leaders have been receiving foreign support too for many years,” he alleged. Wan Saiful was responding to BN parliamentarians such as Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) and Abdul Rahman Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) who in Parliament yesterday claimed that foreign funders were seeking to undermine the government. Government agencies and pro-government groups with the BN-controlled mainstream media in ...

Testing Malaysia BN's Promises

Image
By JOHN R. MALOTT The not guilty verdict handed down last Monday in the sodomy trial of Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim made both sides, Prime Minister Najib Razak and the opposition, happy. Mr. Najib gets an immediate political boost by claiming a victory for the rule of law and an independent judiciary, while Mr. Anwar can focus on the election ahead. This good feeling, however, is likely to be short-lived. Serious challenges lie ahead. The first test of the post-verdict era will be whether the government chooses to appeal the acquittal. Defense experts successfully demolished the government's DNA evidence, but the judge said during the trial that Mr. Anwar's accuser was credible and reliable. With parliamentary elections looming, the government might conclude that forcing Mr. Anwar back into the courtroom will distract and pull him away from the campaign trail. On the other hand, an appeal would be polarizing and cost the government the support of centrists an...
